We bring projects to life while addressing complex regulatory challenges

Berngaard's Industry and Environment Department assists Norwegian industry in realising projects while navigating complex regulatory requirements. Our advice covers a wide range of sectors – from process industry and the waste and recycling sector to energy-intensive industry, the mineral sector and the chemical industry.

We cover the entire project life cycle – from early contact with public authorities and permit processes through to contract structures and dispute resolution. We have particular experience with the implementation of EU legislation into Norwegian law, including the EU Battery Regulation and the Waste Framework Directive.

Our legal expertise is grounded in deep knowledge of the industries we serve. We understand the commercial pressures and operational realities our clients face, and we focus on providing advice that enables projects to move forward – not just advice on what stands in the way.

The department is headed by Einar Bratteng, who brings practical experience from the Ministry of Climate and Environment and the Ministry of Finance, combined with an academic background from the University of Oslo Faculty of Law. Einar lectures in environmental law and planning and building law at BI Norwegian Business School and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), and is the author of the book Waste Law – ensuring that our advice is grounded in both current practice and the latest legal thinking.
